The four Community Bond Committees for the City of San Antonio’s proposed 2012-2017 Bond Program will present their project recommendations to City Council at “B” session scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, in the City Council Chamber, on the first floor of the Municipal Plaza Building located at 114. W. Commerce St.
The four citizen committees – Streets/Bridges/Sidewalks, Drainage, Parks, and Facilities/Community Initiatives – held 20 public meetings, including a bus tour for each committee, between October and December 2011 to discuss City staff-recommended projects and seek the community’s input.
Several hundred residents attended the public meetings, and committee members heard dozens of public comments during the “citizens to be heard” portion of the meetings. The committees approved 135 projects to be considered by City Council.
The proposed $596 million Bond Program is divided into the following categories: Streets/Bridges/Sidewalks, Drainage, Parks, and Facilities/Community Initiatives.
Mayor Julián Castro and City Council appointed 128 community members to serve on the four committees. The Mayor appointed Lila Cockrell, Tessa Martinez Pollack and Carri Baker Wells as tri-chairs for the proposed 2012-2017 Bond Program.
Each committee consisted of co-chairs appointed by the Mayor and 30 members. Each City Council member appointed three community members per committee.
The City Council will discuss the recommendations, and is scheduled to vote on the final list of projects during the City Council meeting Thursday, Jan. 12. The proposed May 2012 Bond election will be called in February.
