The majority of City of San Antonio parks are open from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. under an ordinance that established a park curfew from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Parks not subject to the curfew or that have different hours of operation include the Salado and Leon Creek greenways, Natural Area parks, River Walk, Alamo Plaza, La Villita, Market Square, HemisFair Park and Woodlawn Lake Park.

The use of glass containers in City parks is prohibited by ordinance, with some exceptions. Parks where glass beverage containers are allowed include:
Group camping is allowed at Medina River Natural Area by permit. Call 207-7275 for more information. Camping is not allowed at other parks except when the park curfew is lifted by the Parks and Recreation Department Director for special events and/or holiday celebrations.
Fishing is allowed in the various ponds and lakes at city parks, with the exception of Denman Estate Park. A fishing license is required.
Metal detecting is allowed in selected City parks subject to a permitting process.
Swimming is allowed in City pools only during their regular operating hours and season. Swimming is prohibited in the San Antonio River and other bodies of water such as ponds and lakes.
