Plans Review

To check the status of a permit application in plan review, Development Services Department offers walkthrough permits, preliminary plan review meetings and plan review by appointment. If your plans require revisions, the Plans Examiner will provide written comments identifying Code requirement(s) that must be satisfied in order to obtain approval of the plans. Plans examiners are generally only available for walk-in appointments on Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays as their plans review schedule permits. Please contact (210) 207-8394 to schedule an appointment at least one day in advance to ensure that the plans examiner will be available to meet with you.

Walk through

If the project is less than 3,000 sq ft. and a B or M occupancy of an interior finish out, then your project may be considered as a walk through plans. Change of use projects do not qualify. The following reviews are not available for walk through plans: Fire, Floodplain, ERZD (Edwards Aquifer Recharge Zone), Health. Plans are accepted Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:00-3:00. Additional fees apply.

Counter Plan Review

Projects must be 8,000 sq ft or less, interior finish out projects, less than two stories; new construction projects, or additions, less than 1,000 sq ft.; interior demolition projects less than 1,200 sq ft., new modular or portable structures for office or educational purposes. A, E, F, H, I and S occupancies will not be considered for Counter Plan Review. Change of use projects do not qualify.

Preliminary Plan Review Meetings

For projects that would like to review items such as code clarifications, building setbacks, or other items, prior to submission for a building permit, a preliminary plan review meeting may be scheduled. Complete the request form and return to (210)207-6377. There is a minimum $75.00 fee per hour for each division attending the Preliminary Plan Review meeting and the applicant will be required to pay the fee prior to the meeting. There is a $150.00 cancellation fee for those who do not cancel the scheduled meeting at least 24 hours in advance. [link to the form]

Plan Review by appointment

For projects in A-3, B, E, M, and S occupancies only, a plan review by appointment can be considered. Plans must be submitted a minimum of 15 working days prior to the date of the appointment. There is a $200 processing fee that is due at the time of plan submission. There is a minimum $75 fee per hour for each division reviewing the plan. Mail in plans

There is a $500 charge for all mail in plans. Please complete the building permit application (provide link) and submit to Rudy Cantu, Development Services Specialist Supervisor, (210)207-0138.
