Spina Bifida Texas, March of Dimes and the City of San Antonio joined forces to spread the word about prevention of spina bifida, a birth defect that involves the incomplete development of the spinal cord or its coverings. The condition is preventable just by consuming folic acid during pregnancy.
SAMHD WIC Clinics were asked to design and display a Bulletin Board during the month of September informing that all women should consume 400 micrograms of folic acid daily, whether they are planning a pregnancy or not. WIC Staff had the opportunity to showcase their creativity and experience with health promotion bulletin boards. Winners were announced on Sept. and include: 1st Place/Most Innovative- Buena Vista WIC Clinic (prize: catered lunch, 5 minute massages, t-shirts, goodie bags); 2nd Place – Rittiman WIC Clinic (pizza party); 3rd Place – Ricardo Salinas WIC Clinic (Ice Cream Sundaes); Most Informative – Naco Perrin WIC Clinic (Breakfast Muffins); Best Presentation- Popping Dr. WIC Clinic (Sweet Bread); Honorable Mention – Zarzamora (Milk and Cookies).
Spina Bifida Texas and March of Dimes thank all participating WIC clinics for their great job. And remember to take your folic acid daily!
