The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) aims to ensure that children in
low-income areas continue to receive nutritious meals during the summer,
when they do not have access to school lunch or breakfast. The program
provides nutritious and free meals to children 18 and younger during the
summer months. School districts and other eligible sponsors may serve as
summer feeding program sites.
As part of the Mayors Challenge, Mayor Castro is committed to making sure
all children have equal access to nutritious meals, nutrition education,
physical activity information and opportunities that establish a solid
foundation for future life goals. This network empowers mayors across
Texas to unite their efforts to reduce hunger and prevent obesity by
promoting the 3E¹s of Healthy Living from the Texas Department of
Agriculture¹s Food and Nutrition Programs.
Commissioner Todd Staples developed the 3E¹s of Healthy Living -
Education, Exercise and Eating Right - to motivate Texans to embrace a
Education teaches us to live healthy.
