Hours | Dress Code | Rules | City Holidays

The San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department is a referral agency for court Community Service Restitution Probation Programs. Through its Community Services Division, the Department provides meaningful work opportunities for individuals who have been assigned community service or restitution hours by a court or probation official. Clients are able to complete community service requirements while providing a labor source to the Department for the purpose of maintaining parks or other City property in a condition that benefits the public.

Hours of Operation

6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., seven days a week
You must call at least 24 hours in advance to register. No drop-ins.

Assignments vary in length from 4 hours to 8 hours
Clients must arrive 15 minutes in advance of the start of their work assignments.
Depending on the work site, assignments are available seven days a week. Some work sites are only available during the work week.

Dress Code

Boots or tennis shoes that cover the entire foot are required. No slip-on shoes, high heels, slippers, Crocks or sandals.
T-shirts must have sleeves that reach the mid-arm, round collars, and mid-hip in length. No tank tops, muscle shirts, jerseys, shirts with obscene or derogatory pictures or phrases or advertising of tobacco and alcohol products, no button-up shirts or polo shirts.
Work pants must be khaki, Dickey’s or blue jeans. Pants must extend over the top of the shoe and must be worn with a belt or must fit tight enough around the waist that they do not droop past the top of the hips. No shorts, sweat suits, wind pants, warm-up pants or dresses.
Caps/hats may not have obscene or derogatory pictures or phrases on them. They may not be worn backwards or sideways.

* Clients who are not appropriately dressed will not be allowed to complete their assignments. The dress code helps us to ensure your safety.


Other Important Rules

The Department does not refer clients to other agencies.
The Department does not accommodate special requests for work site placements.
The Department will reject a client who is uncooperative or refuses to perform tasks as assigned. Complete information regarding the rejection will be provided in writing to the referring agency as soon as possible and no later than two working days after the rejection occurs.
Juveniles may not use cell phones during their work assignments.
Clients who appear intoxicated or under the influence of a controlled substance will not be allowed to complete their assignments.
Clients are required to bring their own lunches.
Hours worked can only be applied to a single court case.
City employees and their family members who have been assigned court-ordered community service will be assigned to work sites outside their direct areas of employment.

What you need to bring

Your court referral form.
A photo ID (Or three other forms of ID such as Social Security Card, State ID card, etc.)
Your lunch (Staff are not responsible for taking you to lunch.)
Signed indemnification form found below (You will be required to have a signed form on file before you may begin your shift)
On the first day, you will receive a bar-code card. Bring that card with you each day when you report. If you lose the card, call 207-8300 at least 24 hours in advance before reporting back to Las Moras for work.

What happens if your file becomes inactive?

Municipal Court: If your due date expires, notify the Community Service Program (207-8300) at least 24 hours in advance with an extension date before reporting for a work assignment.

Bexar County Adult Probation: You must maintain activity once per month. Sixty days of inactivity will terminate your status. First occurrence of inactivity – Call Las Moras at least 24 hours in advance before reporting. Second occurrence of inactivity – Report to your probation officer for reinstatement.
