Gilbert E. Ramirez, Jr. Community Center is located in Hendrich Arnold Park, a 24.6320 acre property purchased in 1972. The community center is named for San Antonio Police Patrolman Gilbert E. Ramirez Jr., who was actively involved in youth sports programs before giving his life in the line of duty on December 24, 1983, at the age of 34.
The community center received a renovation in 1997 when a 1994 Quality of Life Bond fund allowed for the addition of a 61-foot by 42-foot multipurpose room that served primarily as a mini-gymnasium. The scope of the $300,000 project also included accessible rest rooms.
