Howard W. Peak Greenway Trails System

Medina River from Natural Area
to Old Applewhite Road

Greenway

This seven-mile trail stretches east from the Medina River Natural Area, located on State Highway 16, south of Lone Star Pass on the City’s Southside. The Medina River Greenway is a refreshing escape for those seeking the serenity of the great outdoors within a short drive of home. With large Cypress, Oak and Pecan trees along the flowing Medina River, traveling the trail is a peaceful adventure. The terrain is mostly easy, but includes switchbacks with slopes up to 8.3 percent in two locations. Future plans include extending the trail eastward, connecting to Jim Mattox Park by the Mission Del Lago Golf Course and to the San Antonio River trails at Mission Espada. Trailheads including signage and educational information are located at Medina River Natural Area, and Old Applewhite Road just south of the Medina River.
