The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the San Antonio River Authority will host two meetings in July as part of the planning process for the restoration initiative for Elmendorf Lake and the Westside Creeks.
This joint initiative with Bexar County and the City of San Antonio is now in the design and planning phase. Both meetings will begin with Open House from 6 to 6:30 p.m. with information stations on the City of San Antonio Linear Creekways Project; the Bexar County's San Pedro Creek Restoration Project; and the City of San Antonio and Bexar County proposed improvements to Elmendorf Lake, as well as the Westside Creeks Feasibility Study. After the open house, the Corps will make its presentation followed by a questions and comments period.
Spanish translation equipment will be available at each meeting. For questions, contact Kim Garcia at 227-1373 or by email at sara@sara-tx.org.
The Westside Creek Initiative is a collaboration of Westside Creeks stakeholders, the City of San Antonio, the San Antonio River Authority, Bexar County, and Our Lady of the Lake University. These agencies have joined forces to design and build flood control and water quality improvements, park enhancements, greenway hike and bike trails for the Elmendorf Lake area and the Westside Creeks, including Alazan, Apache, San Pedro and Martinez Creeks.
Funding includes $10 million in sales tax funded Creekway projects, $2.25 million in 2012 bond funds for general park improvements, $3 million in drainage improvements, water quality features and a system that will minimize trash/debris entering Elmendorf Lake.
The Elmendorf Lake Park improvements will include additional parking, a large plaza and gathering area, shade structures, a destination playground and entryway features.
