About Us
The Department of Public Works is dedicated to improving the quality of life for all San Antonians and visitors by providing engineering, maintenance and governance of regulations for Streets, Storm Water and Transportation. We are comprised of over 650 employees, and have centralized each of these disciplines into three major service areas: Planning and Engineering, Maintenance and Operations, and Program Compliance and Management.

Planning and Engineering
- Preliminary engineering development
- Project Design: In-house and Consultant
- Plan Reviews: Storm Water and Transportation
- Transportation Planning

Maintenance and Operations
- Maintenance throughout the City within four quadrants, centralizing all disciplines: Street Maintenance, Storm Water, and Transportation (in-house forces)
- Traffic Signal System Modernization (TSSM): coordination of over 1,300 signals city-wide to optimize traffic, reduce fuel consumption and emissions

- Local, State and Federal Compliance
- Contract – Consultant Management (Maintenance/Capital)
- Disability Access Office
- Right of Way Office

- Provide direct support to and work closely with the Department's Executive Team
- Oversee the administrative functions, City Council liaisons, Special Projects, etc. within the Director's Office
- Oversee the Department's Fleet Coordinator and Safety Team
